At the heart of the Writers Unchained community is Bristol Women Writers, a long-established group of committed writers who meet fortnightly in members’ homes. Our aim is to support each other in our individual writing ambitions, provide honest and constructive critique, and promote our work through the collective activities of the group.
Since our foundation more than twenty years ago, members have achieved success on many levels: winning prizes, gaining qualifications, finding agents, and in many cases, yes, getting published! Our individual stories and achievements can be found on our member pages.
The feedback group group is limited to ten members at any one time but if you’re a fiction/non-fiction writer in the Bristol area with some experience and a desire to achieve your ambitions, do contact us and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can with current membership information.
In 2013, to celebrate our identity as a group and to give ourselves a new challenge, we embarked on the Unchained Anthology project. Throughout the process of planning, writing, editing and publishing the anthology, we were delighted by the enthusiasm and support we received from everyone involved.
Under the new banner of Writers Unchained, we run the ‘livelit’ event Story Sundays at Southbank Club in Bedminster, Bristol.
Writers Unchained is proud to be a part of Bristol’s creative culture and enjoys engaging with other like-minded people, groups and organisations. We believe that writing should of course be ‘unchained’ and aspire to provide encouragement for others from our own experiences.
